Shi Quan Da Bu Tang (SQDB) the “All-Inclusive Great Tonifying Decoction” warms and tonifies Qi and Blood and is a popular traditional Chinese herbal formula. It includes Si Jun Zi Tang (Four Gentlemen), Si Wu Tang (Four Substance) and Bao Yuan Tang (Preserve the Basal). A thousand years ago it was already being used to treat systemic weakness and Qi deficiency conditions resulting in strains, injuries, depression, anxiety and chronic lung diseases like asthma. In more recent times, these applications and others have been widely studied in laboratories and clinics around the world. This paper reviews some of the clinically relevant published research on SQDB for gerontology and oncology. SQDB has been shown to boost T-cell production in aging mice and prevent osteoporosis in ovariectomized rats. As well SQDB has anti-tumor effects and can increase the efficacy of more conventional cancer treatments.
