Signalment: 6-year-old, 26-kg, male, neutered, English Springer Spaniel; Primary Complaint: Meningioma; History: The dog presented to an animal emergency hospital with a history of acute onset of 3 consecutive seizures in a period of a few hours. He was treated with diazepam and was discharged on 75 mg of phenobarbital and 10 mg of prednisone orally twice daily and with instructions to see a neurologist for an evaluation. The following month, a neurologist, in the area, evaluated the dog and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the head was performed. The MRI revealed a cyst-like lesion in the forebrain and a presumptive diagnosis of a cyst, meningioma or glioma was made. The owner had previously planned to move to Florida and for that reason she presented her dog to the Neurology Service at the University of Florida Small Animal Hospital for treatment.
