This observational report of 3 canine cases evaluated the efficacy of medetomidine-vatinoxan hydrochloride injection (Zenalpha^®) administered at Governing Vessel-20 (GV-20) acupoint in patients requiring individualized sedation and analgesia for a variety of procedures. The onset of action time for Zenalpha given at GV-20 compared to initial studies using intramuscular (IM) administration was analyzed. Patients consistently demonstrated a shorter onset of action time compared to IM administration data. Moreover, degree and duration of sedation were comparable to the intramuscular route and the technique was well tolerated by all patients. Ultimately to support these findings, a larger cohort in a controlled research setting would need to be evaluated. This small case series, however, shows promise for exploring a different approach for sedation/analgesia of specifically indicated patients using a unique drug administration technique.
