Cancer is the most common cause of death in dogs and cats in the United States. Clinical evidence indicates that TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) and TCVM (Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine) can benefit the treatment of cancer in humans and animals. Selection of appropriate herbs for the treatment of each case can be organized into a systematic approach which includes pattern recognition, selection of an appropriate transporter herb based on tumor type and relief of debilitating clinical signs associated with neoplastic disease. Based on the authors clinical experiences, Chinese herbal medicines can be safely administered concurrently with conventional therapies such as radiation, surgery and chemotherapy or used alone for improved quality of life in dogs, cats and horses.
