This is a case series study of 5 canine patients who received low level laser therapy (LLLT) combined with laser acupuncture (LAP) treatment for non-healing wounds resulting from traumatic or surgical site infections. Although treated appropriately with conventional wound interventions, spanning 1–16 weeks, all patients experienced suture dehiscence along with bacterial contamination. Aerobic wound cultures included Staphylococcus pseudintermedius, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA); all of which had failed intense antibiotic therapy at the referring clinic. Laser therapy was initiated to resolve the non-healing wounds, with concurrent discontinuation of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory pharmaceuticals. The protocol included laser acupuncture (LAP) applied to acupoints using Reninger Meridian or Bahr 5 frequencies for 30 seconds (2–5 J total), combined with LLLT delivered across the entire wound surface (Nogier A” frequency, 10 J/cm²). Sessions were typically performed twice weekly initially and then tapered as clinical improvement occurred. Following 2–5 weeks of laser therapy, local wound infections resolved in all five cases, after which normal wound healing progressed. This case series suggests that combined laser therapy (LAP and LLLT) may exert antibacterial effects and provide therapeutic benefit in the management of chronic, non-healing skin wounds in dogs.
